Lessons & Clinics

Karen is passionate about helping riders and their horses form a harmonious partnership. She coaches rather than teaches which hopefully means you remember what you actually did in the lesson and can practice your ‘homework’ before the next session!

She focuses on what you are doing with your body as this significantly influences the horse’s way of going and by doing this, your horse will start to show you when you are getting it right.

Training with Karen

Karen has ridden and competed up to Grand Prix level and is trained by Carl Hester.

Karen has trained her homebred warmblood horses and more recently Iberian stallions up to Grand Prix and is currently competing her Lusitano stallion, Pepperwood Esmerilhao at PSG and Inter 1 achieving excellent results being in the Top 5 placings at Premier League levels. She is also top of the MCI Iberian UK tables at PSG level.

Karen has also taught eventers at all levels with great success and is happy to teach anyone at any level to improve their riding, the partnership with their horse and ultimately their results when competing.

Lessons are for 45 minutes and cost £50.

“Karen’s teaching is clear, insightful, effective, kind and encouraging.

Having struggled with the legacy of years of previous poor/incorrect instruction Karen has helped me unravel all the wrongs and correct them. Helping me plug the holes in my knowledge, break bad habits, and improve my overall level of ridden skill you wouldn’t recognize me now, compared to the rider I was a year ago!

It’s clear too that she has a real vested interest in her pupils and their progression, and you really feel part of the Pepperwood family when attending lessons and residential boot camps. It’s a lovely inclusive and encouraging environment to ride in.

Thanks to Karen’s teaching we just scored an all-time personal best of 22.5 (77.5%) in our latest ODE, placing us 1st after the dressage phase!

Karen has reignited our enthusiasm, confidence, and drive to compete at dressage so alongside eventing we will be aiming for Novice/Elementary dressage in the not so distant future!”

We run 2-day dressage camps throughout the year which allow people to share experiences and test ride with a BD listed judge giving feedback. They are very popular so booking early is important. Keep an eye on ‘Latest News’ for future camp dates.
